The popular video-sharing platform TikTok has announced that it will soon introduce an option which will allow users to publish longer videos of up to 3 minutes minutes in length – three times the existing one-minute limit.
“Now we’re introducing the option for our global community to create longer videos – paving the way for even richer storytelling and entertainment on TikTok.” said the company in a blog post.
According to TikTok, the company has decided to expand its maximum video length to 3 minutes based on feedback from its creators community. There is certain types of content which requires more time and flexibility when filming, such as cooking demos, beauty tutorials, educational content and comedic sketches.
“With longer videos, creators will have the canvas to create new or expanded types of content on TikTok, with the flexibility of a bit more space.” said the company product manager Drew Kirchhoff in the announcement on their website.
“Over the coming weeks, we’ll be rolling out the option to create longer videos to everyone on TikTok, giving our global community the flexibility to film, upload, and edit videos up to three minutes in length directly within TikTok.” the company said. “Once ready, you’ll get a notification that longer videos are now part of your creative toolbox.”
Following the success of TikTok, many social media platforms have introduced their own short-video services, including Facebook’s Instagram launching Reels, Snapchat rolling out Spotlight and even YouTube introducing YouTube Shorts.
However, TikTok still stands out in comparison to its competitors with all the features it offers, including the extensive library of special effects, AR tools and a large music catalog.
