TikTok is reportedly testing a feature that allows users to dislike comments on a video. The development was confirmed by the company in a blog post, which stated that users would be able to flag comments they find “irrelevant or inappropriate” without being visible to others.
This community feedback will add to the range of factors we already use to help keep the comment section consistently relevant and a place for genuine engagement,” said TikTok in the blog post.
Currently, TikTok users had the option to dislike a video to inform the app that they are not interested in the comment. However, the company has now added the comment dislike button in addition to the option to report a comment for community guideline violations.
It is pertinent to mention that the comment dislike button will not reveal the number of dislikes to users, which is similar to YouTube removing the dislike counter on their videos. This means that users will be able to flag comments without being visible to others.
However, the comment dislike button is currently being tested in select regions and there is no official timeline for a global roll out yet. The short video-sharing platform says that decisions about whether to roll out the feature in full will be made in the coming weeks.
