TikTok has revealed its latest feature, “AI Song,” currently in testing, aiming to empower users to create unique songs through artificial intelligence. The experimental feature, accessible to a limited user base, utilizes the Bloom language model to generate lyrics based on user-input prompts. While the tool is primarily for entertainment, TikTok emphasizes it is not designed for creating viral hits.
Users, guided by TikTok user Jonah Manzano’s walkthrough, input prompts like “going to concerts” or “cuddling with pets.” The AI then generates lyrics and pairs them with music from TikTok’s pre-saved catalog, allowing users to choose vibes from genres like “pop,” “EDM,” or “hip-hop.”
TikTok has established guidelines for AI Song use, prohibiting actions that exploit or harm minors, spread false information, or engage in defamatory or harassing activities. The company also hinted at a potential name change for the feature in the future.
While the broader release of AI-generated music on TikTok remains uncertain, the platform joins others like YouTube in exploring AI-generated music tools. YouTube introduced its “Dream Track” feature, enabling creators to build 30-second AI-generated soundtracks imitating various artists’ styles.
TikTok’s foray into AI-generated music aligns with its broader music industry strategy. Parent company ByteDance previously launched the free-to-use music production app “Ripple” in the U.S., using machine learning to transform user-recorded melodies into instrumental songs.
TikTok has also made strides in the music business with the subscription-only music streaming service, “TikTok Music,” launched in select countries last year. Although details about its U.S. launch are undisclosed, a ByteDance trademark application suggests a potential introduction in the near future. TikTok continues to expand its presence in the music creation and consumption space through innovative features and strategic initiatives.
