The United States is looking into banning TikTok along with other Chinese social media apps according to US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo who told Fox News in an interview.
According to Pompeo, banning of chinese social media apps was something that was under consideration and this includes the short video sharing app TikTok that has gained immense popularity globally.
The news comes several days after India placed a ban on 59 Chinese apps including the widely popular TikTok as well as Alibaba’s UC Browser and Tencent’s WeChat.

The decision was made after a clash between Chinese and Indian troops in Ladakh which resulted in at least 20 casualties on the Indian side.
The trade war between US and China has been going on for some time now and Huawei is probably the most affected tech company as a result since the US banned Huawei and put it on the entity list prohibiting US companies from conducting any business with the Chinese tech giant.
If US proceeds to banning Chinese social media apps especially TikTok, it will be another big blow to Chinese firms. ByteDance, the company behind TikTok has already announced that it is distancing itself from China and moving operations elsewhere because the new scrutiny law in the region.
