Facebook-owned WhatsApp has started rolling out an update for its iOS beta testers with the ‘View Once’ feature that allows users to send photos and videos that can only be viewed once before they disappear from the chat.
The new View Once feature, which has been available to Android beta testers since June, started rolling out for iOS beta testers on Friday as per a report by WABetaInfo.
According to WABetaInfo, the new WhatsApp View Once feature does not stop users from taking screenshots of media that is being shared and the senders will not be notified if a screenshot has been taken unlike Snapchat which notifies sender if a screenshot of the conversation is captured.
Furthermore, the sender will be able to view if the message has been opened by the recipient.
Facebook has been copying several features from competitor apps like Snapchat and bringing them to its own platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram.
In November, the Facebook-owned encrypted messaging platform introduced disappearing messages feature that allowed users to have conversations that disappeared after seven days. However, unlike some other applications, WhatsApp did not allow users to set a time limit for messages, so they remained available for one week.
