Last year, WhatsApp introduced a multi-device featured called the Companion Mode, which allowed a user to link their WhatsApp account with up to 4 devices at once and use two smartphones with the same account.
Previously, the multi-device feature was limited to a select beta users, but WhatsApp has now released the Companion Mode to all beta users with Android app version 2.23.8.2. However, the company has stated that it may take up to 24 hours for the feature to appear on the app.
WhatsApp Companion Mode is available to all regular and WhatsApp Business users. Although, the WhatsApp multi-device feature is only available to Android users, iPhone users can connect to another Android phone using the Companion Mode.
According to WABetaInfo, a service that tracks the encrypted messenger for new and upcoming features, said that users can access the Companion Mode by downloading the latest WhatsApp beta app 2.23.8.2 from the Play Store.
However, you need to be a beta member in order to download the latest WhatsApp beta app update. Once you’ve downloaded the app, it will ask you for a phone number after opening it, click on the three-dot menu icon at the top and select ‘Link a device’ option.
Now, you simply need to scan the QR code shown on the primary device in order to link both devices under WhatsApp Companion Mode. In order to get the QR code on the primary device, you need to open the app, click on settings, and choose Linked Devices.
