Meta-owned messaging platform, WhatsApp, is getting a load of new features, including picture-in-picture mode and 21 new emojis among other additions. According to the details, the latest feature, picture-in-picture mode, is already available to some users that have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 22.24.0.79, reports WABetaInfo, a service tracking the encrypted messenger for new features.
According to the details, WhatsApp’s picture-in-picture mode will allow users to make video calls on iOS while using other applications at the same time. Basically, a picture-in-picture view will instantly appear when you switch to another application while on a WhatsApp video call.
The new feature is expected to be released to more users in the coming days. Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also adding several new emojis to the messenger – 21 to be exact. The messaging platform has also redesigned eight emojis that were already available on the platform and the new versions have been made available on the latest WhatsApp beta for Android.
WABetaInfo did share a glimpse of the redesigned eight emojis in a screenshot.
However, the 21 new emojis will be released to all beta users soon as they have been approved by the Unicode Consortium, which gave a heads up to the Unicode 15 standard in mid-September this year. According to the details, the new standard includes over 4,400 new characters, 20 of which were emojis.
