WhatsApp is constantly releasing new features and the latest one to make the list is the ability to silence calls from unknown contacts / numbers.
The announcement was made by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on Facebook. “You can now automatically silence incoming calls from unknown contacts on WhatsApp for even more privacy and control.” he wrote.
You can access the option by going into WhatsApp’s Settings > Privacy > Calls > Silence Unknown Callers and turning on the new feature. When enabled, the feature will silence all incoming calls from unknown numbers, including both sound and visual alerts in the app.
However, these silenced calls will appear in your recent calls list with a note that says “silenced unknown caller” next to them. The feature is especially useful if you don’t want to be disturbed by any unknown callers and it will help combat an uptick in spam on the platform.
In addition to the new silencing feature, WhatsApp is also adding a “Privacy Checkup” feature to the encrypted messenger, which is designed to inform users about all privacy and security options on the app.
This feature covers several categories, including letting users choose who can contact them, and add an additional security to their account such as two-step verification or biometric authentication to open the app.
