WhatsApp has started rolling out message reactions to catch up with other messaging platforms like Telegram and iMessage. The feature will allow users to quickly react to a message one of the available six emojis, including like, love, laugh, surprise, sad, and thanks. However, the WhatsApp is expected to add more emojis to message reactions in the future, which has been revealed by the feature’s testing.
The announcement was made by Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, who had tested the feature as coming soon in the company’s big reveal about WhatsApp Communities. As mentioned above, there will initially be only six WhatsApp Message Reactions, something Zuckerberg also highlighted in his story.
According to a report, WhatsApp will likely utilize any emoji, GIF, or Sticker in the messenger for reacting to messages in the future. The latest version of the encrypted messenger spotted in testing looks set to give access to the entire emoji keyboard when users tap the plus bottom for message reactions. However, the wider reaction palette is not yet available even to beta testers.
The feature has been under testing since 2018 and the company initially planned to introduce sticker reactions before shifting towards emoji reactions like its sister company Facebook. The feature has so far been referred to as Emoji Reactions, Message Reactions, and Quick Reactions.
It is pertinent to mention that WhatsApp has also introduced support to add 32 people in Group Voice Calls at the same time. The feature has been under testing for sometime for select users, however, the company has now released it for the stable version of WhatsApp.
