WhatsApp has reportedly started testing the ‘View Once’ feature on Windows to let users have the ability to access photos and videos that are meant to be viewed once on the app. The feature was spotted on the beta release of WhatsApp’s Universal Windows Platform (UWP) app that is currently meant for testing purposes. Furthermore, WhatsApp is also testing a new pop-up menu on Android for phone numbers you get in a message, which will allow the user to select the option of dialing the number or adding it to contacts.
According to WABetaInfo, a service that tracks new features on the encrypted messaging platform, the new features were spotted on WhatsApp for Windows beta 2.2212.2.0. However, the ‘View Once’ feature for WhatsApp on Windows only provides the option of viewing media content and doesn’t include the option to send it.
It is pertinent to mention that the ‘View Once’ feature was rolled out on WhatsApp for Android and iOS last year and allows users to make the photos and videos they share on the platform disappear from the chat after being viewed once by the recipient. However, the photos and videos shared using the feature can still be saved by simply taking a screenshot or screen recording of the chat.
Moreover, the WhatsApp for Android beta 2.22.8.11 has been released and includes a pop-up menu feature that appears when you tap a phone number inside a message / chat. The pop-up menu gives the user option to dial the number directly using the default app or add it to their contact list. If the phone number is already on WhatsApp, the menu will also give an option to start a chat directly with the user.
