WhatsApp is reportedly working on a feature that would allow users to create polls in group chats. According to WABetaInfo, a service that tracks new features on the encrypted messenger, the new feature is expected to hit the beta version of WhatsApp soon.
WhatsApp is working on several new features that will be introduced to beta testers, including the ability to react to messages with emoji and the group polls feature, which are currently available in other messaging services like Facebook Messenger and Telegram.
The group polls feature in WhatsApp is currently under development on the latest beta version of the encrypted messenger for iOS. However, the feature has not been made available to users on the beta version of WhatsApp for iOS since it is under development.
WABetaInfo has shared a screenshot of the group polls feature on WhatsApp that shows the process of adding new poll to a group on WhatsApp for iOS, giving an idea of what the upcoming feature might look like when it is rolled out to everyone in the coming weeks.
According to the screenshot, the users will be prompted to enter a question upon selecting the add a new group poll option. However, this is all that was available from the screenshot as the feature is currently under development. It is still unclear whether everyone in the group will be allowed to create a poll or if group admins will be the only one able to do it.
It is expected that the group polls feature on WhatsApp will be end-to-end encrypted like all messages, attachments, and calls made on the platform. This should ensure that only the group’s participants will be able to see the poll and its results. Furthermore, the feature has been spotted on WhatsApp for iOS, but it should also make way to WhatsApp for Android and Desktop soon after the release.
As mentioned above, the group polls feature is already available on other platforms like Facebook Messenger and Telegram, which allows users to create group polls and made decisions for different occasions like planning events etc. However, it is still unclear when WhatsApp will actually roll out this feature to everyone.
