WhatsApp is constantly working on new features to ahead of the competition like Telegram and Discord. Now, Meta’s developer team is working on a new alternate profile feature for WhatsApp that will allow users to set a secondary profile picture and account name.
Currently, you have a few options to define visibility of your profile picture, which includes Everyone, My contacts, Nobody, and My contacts except. The last option allows you to select specific contacts who shouldn’t see your profile picture. However, these people end up with a generic gray silhouette of a person, which may not be suitable for everyone.
WhatsApp’s alternate profile feature provides a solution to this problem, especially for users who don’t want to mix up their private life with their professional side. You can simply switch between profiles for your work and private life, eliminating the need to use hacks like app cloning or having a secondary smartphone for another WhatsApp account.
However, the feature is still under development and there is no actual release date yet. According to WABetaInfo, the alternate profile feature was spotted on WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.23.24.4 for select users so it may be a while before you get to try it out.
