WhatsApp is gearing up to enhance the security of its web client by introducing a new feature called the secret code feature, which aims to bolster the privacy of locked chats. This feature, currently in development, requires users to input a secret code to access locked conversations, adding an extra layer of security to sensitive discussions. The upcoming update follows the recent rollout of the Chat Lock in Web beta, extending privacy and security measures to the WhatsApp Web platform.
The secret code feature, as revealed by a screenshot shared by WABetaInfo, is poised to offer significant benefits for user privacy and security. It ensures that confidential conversations remain inaccessible without the secret code, even if users forget to log out. This added layer of protection is particularly valuable in shared or public computing environments, such as cybercafes, where unauthorized access may pose a risk.
The introduction of this feature also caters to users who share desktop devices or work in environments with multiple users accessing a single computer. Eventually, WhatsApp plans to implement the secret code feature across all devices, enhancing security wherever WhatsApp is accessible.
Details regarding the release of this feature will be disclosed in future updates. Additionally, WhatsApp is also working on redesigning its web client interface to enable a modern and visually appealing experience featuring upgrades to the dark theme and navigation tabs. Moreover, the platform is trying out different new features in its mobile versions like a reorganized status tab and a file-sharing feature similar to the Android Quick Share and a cross-platform messaging feature to comply with EU regulations.
