WhatsApp is working on several new features including the ability to add voice notes as status updates, which is visible to all your contacts and already allows you to share photos, videos or even a GIF.
According to WABetaInfo, the new WhatsApp beta version for Android 2.22.16.3 introduces the ability to add voice status updates. However, the feature is yet to be unlocked for beta testers and that would happen in the coming weeks.
The report says that WhatsApp will allow users to record and upload voice notes as their WhatsApp Status. or they could simply select an already existing audio file stored on their device.
Furthermore, it is expected that WhatsApp will offer the same privacy settings for the new ‘Voice Status’ as it does with other forms of status updates, including photos and videos.
WABetaInfo shared a screenshot of the new ‘WhatsApp Voice Status’ that shows a microphone button being added to the status tab, which is going to allow users to record their voice notes to post as status updates.
Moreover, the voice notes will also be end-to-end encrypted just like all other messages and media shared on the messaging platform.
However, the feature is still under development and yet to be released to beta testers but since it is already part of the code for latest WhatsApp beta version 2.22.16.3, it may arrive sooner than later.
It is pertinent to mention that WhatsApp has been working on several new features and privacy options lately, including the ability to hide your profile photo and last seen status from specific contacts.
