WhatsApp has both text message and voice message features, but the encrypted messaging application has gone a step further and started working on the “Voice to Text” feature.
WhatsApp news monitoring website WABetaInfo came across a feature in the latest beta versions of WhatsApp for iOS and Android that allowed the conversion of voice notes to text messages. The feature may not seem like much but it may be very helpful in certain situations and save a lot of time.
An example would be a noisy environment where you can’t reliably hear voice messages or even listen to songs on your phone. The WhatsApp “Voice to Text” feature will help you read the message instead of having to listen to it and may help save time as well.
A screenshot shared by WA Beta Info shows that WhatsApp will download 150MB of app data to enable transcripts and activate the voice-to-text feature. Furthermore, WhatsApp will use your phone’s speech recognition capabilities to enable this feature, and it will be end-to-end encrypted.
There is no launch date for the feature yet, but since it has been spotted on the latest beta version, it won’t be long before it becomes widely available on the stable version of WhatsApp.
