YouTube has been actively combating the use of ad blockers, signaling a clear push for increased subscriptions to its Premium service. In a recent move to enhance the Premium tier’s appeal, YouTube has introduced a feature called YouTube Playables.
The addition of Playables aims to provide subscribers with an enriched ad-free experience and access to some of the platform’s unique features. However, it’s worth noting that the feature might not be automatically enabled for all users. Some individuals have reported receiving notifications from YouTube prompting them to activate it through the Settings tab.
But what exactly are YouTube Playables? This value-added feature comes at no extra cost and is reminiscent of similar approaches seen on platforms like Netflix. On YouTube, Playables have their dedicated section on both the mobile app and the desktop website. Once accessed, users can engage in playing arcade games.
An appealing aspect of this feature is the absence of the need to download anything – all the games can be played directly on the YouTube app or the desktop browser. Currently, there are 37 games available through YouTube Playables, with Angry Birds Showdown being one of the highlighted options.
It’s important to note that YouTube Playables might be a temporary addition, as YouTube is uncertain about its long-term viability. The streaming platform has stated that the service will be available until March 28, 2024, after which it will evaluate whether Premium users find value in it. If not, the feature may be discontinued.
