The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Minister of Economy, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, has announced the rollout of a Schengen-like joint tourist visa for six Gulf countries within the next two years.
The new initiative was unanimously endorsed during the seventh meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministers in Muscat and aims to simplify and enhance tourism even further in the region.
The Schengen-like joint visa will open doors for travelers, granting them access to six Gulf countries under a single, unified tourist visa, which is going to improve tourism and foster economic synergy across the region.
These Gulf countries will include the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, and Kuwait. Furthermore, these nations are well-connected via air and road routers, which makes travel between them very convenient.
The joint tourist visa is essential for GCC’s 2030 strategy to improve the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) through increased inter-city flights and hotel occupancy across the six Gulf nations.
The UAE alone has aimed at increasing its GDP from tourism from 14% to 18% within the next new years.
