In a groundbreaking move, Abu Dhabi now offers couples the convenience of receiving their marriage contracts instantly through text messages and various digital platforms, as announced by authorities on Thursday.
Considered the first-of-its-kind initiative, the Abu Dhabi Judicial Department (ADJD) revealed that newlyweds will now have their marriage contracts delivered immediately after the ceremony concludes, once the officiant digitally authenticates the marriage.
Remarkably, residents in the emirate can now tie the knot without leaving the comfort of their homes.
Counsellor Yousef Saeed Al Abri, the undersecretary of the ADJD, expressed, “This service is a testament to the department’s commitment to excellence in the judicial and notarial sectors of Abu Dhabi.”
For those curious about the process, Abu Dhabi has streamlined digital weddings as follows:
- Submit a marriage application online, utilizing the UAE Pass to access the service on the ADJD’s website.
- Upon approval, applicants can finalize procedures online, choosing between an in-person ceremony and a video-call marriage session.
- Book the appointment.
- After the marriage session, the digital contract is promptly delivered.
- Share finalized contracts through official channels using a digital signature.
The ADJD’s marriage platform provides users with scheduling flexibility, displaying officiants’ availability and automated medical examination results. All documents are digitally authenticated and carry a unique contract number, eliminating the need for traditional paper documentation.
