The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC) of the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi unveiled several projects aimed at enhancing traffic flow and infrastructure, with a budget exceeding Dh3 billion.
Mid-Island Parkway:
The largest project announced is the 25km Mid-island Parkway, a road featuring four to five lanes connecting the mainland and island of Abu Dhabi through mid-islands. With entrances and exits to various islands including Al Sammaliyyah and Al Reem, the road is expected to accommodate 8,000 to 10,000 vehicles per hour in each direction. The project is divided into two phases, with the first phase connecting Al Saadiyat Island and Umm Yifienah Street, and the second phase linking Umm Yifeenah Island to Al Raha Beach and the E10 road.
Musaffah Road Traffic Improvements Project (E30):
Another significant project is the Musaffah Road Traffic Improvements Project, addressing traffic challenges by removing junctions, reducing congestion, and constructing new bridges. This aims to enhance connectivity and safety in the Musaffah and Mohamed bin Zayed City areas.
Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street Improvements (E20):
Improvements on Al Khaleej Al Arabi Street involve enhancing flow between Khalifa City and Zayed City, reducing congestion, and providing a new entrance to Khalifa City and Zayed City through a new intersection. The project includes increasing the number of lanes from three to five to boost the road’s capacity.
New Bridges and Intersections:
ITC is launching projects at intersections such as Abu Dhabi-Al Ain Road (E22) and Mohamed bin Zayed Street to increase traffic capacity and improve vehicle flow. Adjustments to intersections at Mazyad Mall and Capital Mall will also be made to enhance traffic movement in the area.
These projects underline Abu Dhabi’s commitment to enhancing transportation infrastructure, reducing congestion, and improving overall connectivity for its residents and visitors.
