Abu Dhabi’s Masdar City, which is termed as the futuristic city of sustainable urban life, has opened the highly anticipated Masdar Park. It occupies an area of about 20 hectares, which makes it the largest community space in Masdar City, a world recognized pioneer in innovation and environmental conservation initiatives.
The park provides a variety of facilities, including green spaces, sports courts, playgrounds, and countless running and cycling trails.
One of the features that stand out is that it involves green solutions such as recycled materials and 340 panels that produce over 300 megawatts of solar energy per year. One highlight is the employment of liquid nano-clay in the pump track, and it is a sign of the commitment to water conservation. The Park’s ‘Exemplar’ certification is a clear indicator of its compliance with the principles of sustainability.
Masdar City celebrated its opening with ‘The Festival’ that had many events related to eco-consciousness from a green circus parade to interactive light shows and creative workshops.
As the Executive Director of Sustainable Real Estate for Masdar City, Mohamed Al Breiki points out the park as a symbol of sustainable urban living and innovation, which is clearly demonstrated in the commitment of Masdar City to this cause.
Through blending its recreational features with environmental consciousness, Masdar City Park is a good example of Masdar City as a role model for future cities dealing with climate change.
