Khaleej Times has reported the temporary closure of a beloved Dubai beach. A notice board signaling the closure has been placed at the entrance of Al Sufouh Beach, also known as the ‘secret,’ ‘hidden,’ and ‘Black Palace’ beach.
During a recent visit by Khaleej Times on a Friday night, the beach was found barricaded with a security guard stationed at the entrance. Disappointed visitors were being informed by the guard about the closure of their favorite spot.
For Amar Benatia, an Algerian expat in Dubai, Al Sufouh Beach is a crucial part of his daily routine. “I go there to walk and swim every single morning all year long. I had a stressful year at work and going there helps me a lot.”
Expressing hope for a temporary closure, he said, “When I found the beach closed, I felt like I lost part of me. I didn’t know what to do. I don’t feel the same on any other beach. I met people on that beach. We walk and talk together every week. I called all of them, and they were all heartbroken. We really hope that they will open our beach soon.”
Similar sentiments were shared on the social discussion platform Reddit. One resident pleaded, “Please don’t take this beach away from us,” while another user declared, “It will always be a secret beach in my heart. If they close it, my life in Dubai is over.”
Famous for its breathtaking sunset views, the sandy stretch is situated between the Burj Al Arab hotel and Palm Jumeirah island. Its entrance, hidden behind a row of trees and not well-lit, contributes to its status as a hidden gem.
Despite its ‘secret’ reputation, the beach is a popular destination for both residents and tourists, often witnessing crowded evenings and busy weekends.
