Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled a cutting-edge e-bike prototype designed specifically for delivery companies, promoting a transition to environmentally friendly electric bikes. The initiative aims to enhance the scope of current and future commercial transport services while expediting the shift towards emission-free transportation, according to Muhannad Khaled Al Muhairi, Director of Commercial Transport Activities at RTA’s Licensing Agency.
Al Muhairi highlighted the collaborative effort between RTA and industry experts in researching and developing a tailor-made e-bike model suitable for the delivery business. The objective is to motivate companies to adopt green and eco-friendly transportation options. As part of the plan, charging stations for these e-bikes will be established across Dubai.
Emphasizing the cost-cutting benefits of transitioning to e-bikes by reducing reliance on fossil fuels, Al Muhairi stated that the advanced technology equipped in the e-bikes surpasses that of traditional motorcycles. This technological edge is expected to contribute to a decrease in incident rates.
While the specific specifications of the e-bikes were not provided by RTA, the accompanying images suggest that the black and white e-bikes share similarities with petrol engine-powered scooters, featuring a step-through frame and smaller wheels. Al Muhairi pointed out that the shift to e-bikes aligns with the goals of Dubai Vision 2030, aiming to reduce carbon emissions by 30%, and coincides with the Year of Sustainability in 2023.
