Donation for Dams by Pakistanis in UAE: 1 million USD

Pakistani businessmen in Dubai have committed to raising $1 million (Rs123.5 million; Dh3.67 million) for the construction of Dams in Pakistan.

Mumtaz Muslim and Amjad Ali Khan Dubai based businessmen hosted a gathering which was also attended by Senator Faisal Javed. Senator Faisal Javed attended the reception on the special directives of Pakistan’s Prime Minister Imran Khan to rais the spirit of Pakistanis living in the UAE to contribute towards Diamer Bhasha Dam fund.

Amount of $756,000 (Dh2.77 million) has already been raised and the rest of the amount will be raised within the next 2-3 days. The announcement was made on Monday by the UAE-based Pakistanis at the fund-raising dinner.

Mumtaz Muslim stated on the occasion, that the people were contributing openheartedly and he expects that the total collection will reach $1 million within a few days.

Senator Faisal Javed thanked the Pakistanis in the UAE for their generous contribution.

“Prime Minister Imran Khan has reiterated that Pakistanis living abroad are the backbone of our economy and will help the Government achieve its goals,” Javed said.

Imran Khan in his address earlier this month has appealed overseas Pakistanis to donate generously for the cause of dams in the country. He, however, warned that the country could face famine-like condition by 2025 if dams are not built now.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has also urged Pakistanis living in Europe and the US to contribute to at least $1,000 each in the fund. There are approximately 8 to 9 million Pakistanis living overseas.
