Dubai is offering a new umbrella sharing service for people using public transport. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) teamed up with UmbraCity, a Canadian company, to provide this service for free at Al Ghubaiba Bus and Metro station. If it goes well for three months, they’ll expand it to other stations.
This umbrella sharing service will make walking around Dubai easier and protect people from the sun and rain. Furthermore, the initiative is in line with Dubai’s plan for the future, focusing on sustainability and making the city a better place to live. The RTA says that it will improve people’s lives and make them happier.
Here’s how it works: Commuters can borrow umbrellas for free using their Nol card. This supports Dubai’s idea of a ’20-minute city,’ where people can get what they need within a short walk or bike ride. This builds stronger communities and makes people feel better.
Khaled Al Awadhi, from the RTA, said, “By promoting the use of smart umbrellas, which are free when you use your Nol card, we’re helping create lively, healthy, and inclusive communities in Dubai. Right now, it’s at Al Ghubaiba metro station for three months. If it works well, we’ll think about adding it to other places.”
Amir Entezari, the CEO of UmbraCity, added, “We are honored to partner with RTA and bring UmbraCity’s innovative umbrella-sharing service to the heart of Dubai. This collaboration reflects our mutual dedication to advancing sustainable urban mobility and enhancing the livability of cities. Together, we are setting a global benchmark for smart, sustainable urban living, demonstrating that with innovative solutions and collaborative efforts, we can make significant strides towards building cities that prioritize the well-being of their communities and the environment.”
