Dubai Mall is gearing up to implement a paid parking system in partnership with Salik, the toll gate operator, employing a barrier-free approach. Teaming up with Emaar Malls, Salik is working towards establishing a seamless parking management system at the well-known Dubai Mall. As per the agreement, Salik will be responsible for designing, financing, developing, installing, and managing this innovative parking system.

Meanwhile, Dubai Mall will contribute by providing the necessary local infrastructure, office space, and car park maintenance. This move marks Salik’s venture into revenue streams beyond toll gates, signaling a new era for the company.
The expected commencement of this system is in the third quarter of 2024, ensuring a seamless experience for visitors to the mall. Nevertheless, the parking fees are still pending determination by Emaar Malls and will be subtracted from the Salik user account.
The innovative parking system utilizes automatic fee collection for ticketless parking, employing cutting-edge vehicle plate recognition technology. According to the details, the technology works through cameras that record license plate numbers of vehicles as they enter or exit Dubai Mall, allowing them to calculate the duration of the visit and parking.
Since its inception in 2007, Salik has served as Dubai’s automated road toll collection system, crafted to enable smooth mobility without the need for manual transactions. With a network of eight toll gates strategically positioned throughout Dubai, including the prominent Sheikh Zayed Road, Salik underwent a transition into a public joint stock company in June 2022. With over two million registered active accounts and four million active vehicles, Salik covers more than 90% of Dubai’s registered vehicles.
In a strategic move, Salik is now exploring opportunities for growth in Dubai’s private parking market, targeting an estimated 50,000 parking spaces. Ibrahim Sultan Al Haddad, CEO and board member of Salik Company PJSC, is optimistic about providing a convenient customer journey. Starting with Dubai Mall, the initiative aims to eliminate the need for gates or barriers, minimizing congestion and traffic for customers. Salik plans to build on the success of this project and expand to other locations in the city.
Dubai Mall’s parking charges, facilitated by Salik, will integrate automatic number plate recognition and RFID technology. While other malls in Dubai have parking charges, they typically employ a barrier system. For instance, the Mall of the Emirates offers free parking for the first four hours on weekdays, with subsequent charges for additional hours, up to an overnight fee of Dh350. Weekends and public holidays, however, remain free.
Ahmed Almatrooshi, Emaar Properties’ executive board member, expressed satisfaction with the introduction of Salik’s transportation solution. He anticipates an enhanced parking experience at Dubai Mall, aligning with their goal of exceeding customer expectations and reinforcing Dubai Mall’s status as a premier shopping and lifestyle destination.
