This year Dubai’s transit system will change dramatically with the much-awaited launch of the Blue Line in the Dubai Metro. The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) unveiled the vision of the project on Sunday, which is intended to create a new transport paradigm. The network will consist of 14 stations connected together by three interchange hubs.
As stated by Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman, of RTA, 2024 will be the Year of the groundbreaking initiatives for the new project, which includes an extensive route measuring 30 km in length. Among the most stunning features is 15.5 km underground lines and the remaining 14.5 km above the ground.
During the revelation of 2023’s public transport statistics, Al Tayer underscored the staggering figure of 702 million riders, with a significant 62 percent comprising Dubai Metro and public bus commuters. He emphasized that the Dubai Metro Blue Line isn’t just a transit project but a visionary response to the projected demographic surge outlined in the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, anticipating a population influx of up to one million residents in surrounding areas.
Al Tayer further elaborated on the strategic integration of the Blue Line with existing Red and Green lines, culminating in a seamless connection between Dubai International Airport and nine pivotal locales along its trajectory. Travelers can anticipate swift journey times ranging from a mere 10 to 25 minutes, underscoring the efficiency and convenience this new transit artery promises to deliver to Dubai’s bustling urban landscape.
