Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed phase III of a project aimed at retrofitting its buildings and facilities to make them accessible for people of determination, aligning with the standards of the ‘Dubai Building Code’. This phase marks the conclusion of the facilities upgrade project, with a total of 26 buildings and facilities meeting the set accessibility standards.
Enhanced Facilities:
Improvements include creating accessible passages for visually impaired individuals, installing automatic entrance doors, adding ramps and informational signboards, establishing designated waiting areas, and providing spacious and easily accessible elevators. Tactile guide plates with Braille have been installed for individuals with visual impairments, while advanced devices are available for those with hearing difficulties. Necessary amenities such as wheelchairs have also been made available to support clients with mobility challenges.

Stations and Parking Areas:
The six-month preparation period focused on key locations such as RTA’s Head Office and various bus stations including Hatta, Al Qusais, Deira City Center, and Jebel Ali. Rehabilitation works extended to numerous stations including Karama, Mall of the Emirates, Union, Al Ghubaiba, Satwa, Oud Metha, International City, and Ibn Battuta. Additionally, accessibility amenities were provided at multi-level parking facilities such as Al Ghubaiba, Al Rigga Carlton Tower, and Naif.
Customer Happiness Centers:
The RTA ensured the enhancement of Customer Happiness Centers to welcome clients from diverse groups of people of determination. Facilities such as the Umm Ramool and Deira Customer Happiness Centers have been fully equipped and refurbished to meet accessibility standards.
Field Visits and Recognition:
Before commencing rehabilitation efforts, the RTA collaborates with Dubai Municipality, conducts preliminary assessments, and obtains necessary certifications. The authority received the Gold certificate in the “Accessible for All” category from Dubai Municipality for both Al Ghubaiba Bus Station and the Customer Happiness Centre in Deira, recognizing their efforts in improving accessibility for all individuals.
