A new surveillance robot will now catch people breaking rules while using bikes and electric scooters in Dubai, UAE. This robot, which watches for rule-breaking, will start being tested in March.
The surveillance robot will watch how bikes and scooters are used. It’s run by smart computer systems and will spot different rule-breaking actions, like not wearing helmets, parking scooters where they shouldn’t be, having more than one person on a scooter, or riding in places only for walking. These actions can lead to fines of up to Dh300.
When it finds someone breaking the rules, it will share this information with the Dubai Police to look into it further.
The robot can spot rule-breaking with high accuracy, send information quickly within 5 seconds, and see up to 2 km away. It’s built to work well in different weather conditions. If it gets close to something or someone within 1.5 meters, it stops moving to keep everyone safe.
The first part of the testing will start at the Jumeirah 3 beach area. Dubai authorities will see how well it works and if it could be used more widely later on.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) made a deal with Terminus Group, a company that makes advanced technical systems, to start this testing. They agreed on it during the Mena Transport Congress and Exhibition 2024 held by the RTA in Dubai.
