Dubai’s Road and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a new initiative curb the negative impact of heavy rain in the city by opening a high-tech Joint Flood Management Room. Within the RTA’s Enterprise Command and Control Centre, this dedicated team will use advanced technology to track and control traffic while ensuring the safety of Dubai roads in times when poor weather conditions prevail.
The Joint Flood Management Room came about in cooperation among leading stakeholders such as Dubai Police, the Dubai Municipality, Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment and representatives of major development areas to enable a faster response plan through modern technological advancements. The ability to monitor in real time and the rapid deployment of teams will play a significant part in reducing major impacts as well as speeding up the resolution process.
This initiative comes at a crucial stage as the UAE prepares to enjoy a cooler week, with overnight temperatures predicted to drop in some areas down to 12°C. On Monday, the weather will be mostly sunny and warm with maximum temperatures of 27ºC in Ras Al Khaimah and 13ºC around Al Ain.
The Joint Flood Management Room, as a part of Dubai’s resilience to infrastructure, represents an effort towards reliable public safety and efficient traffic control during bad weather. The initiative is in line with the city’s progressive approach to technology and emergency response strategies.
