In anticipation of COP28 scheduled at Expo City Dubai from November 30 to December 12, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has unveiled a comprehensive plan to enhance travel efficiency, speed, and cost-effectiveness for residents during the global event.
As part of the initiative, the RTA will ensure transportation across the Blue Zone for official delegations, the Green Zone for business and public representatives, and for participants of the 18th United Nations Climate Change Conference of Youth (COY18). Eco-friendly transportation modes will be deployed within the venue.
To manage mobility effectively, the RTA will deploy various transit modes, including the Dubai Metro, Dubai Bus, and taxis. COP28 delegates will benefit from special edition Nol cards, providing them with free access to public transportation throughout the conference.
Metro Timings:
- The Dubai Metro, with Expo 2020 Metro Station as the primary access point, will extend operating hours from 5 am to 1 am the following day during the conference.
- Free multi-level car parking facilities will be available at designated stations.
Buses and Taxis
- The plan includes 67 biofuel-powered buses and 10 electric buses, serving four stops within Expo City Dubai.
- New bus routes have been introduced to transport delegates and organizers to key locations in the city.
- Over 100 directional road signs are installed to guide motorists to the conference site.
- Taxi services will feature over 10,000 hybrid taxis and 1,000 electric luxury vehicles with designated stops within Expo City.
Youth and Climate Initiatives
- Complimentary ‘pre-charged’ Nol cards have been issued by RTA to support youth initiatives in climate action.
- Conference visitors can obtain a Nol card and use the ‘S’hail’ app to identify the best route to the conference venue.
- RTA encourages young participants to utilize public transportation as a sustainable means of appreciating Dubai’s scenery while contributing to carbon emissions reduction.
