Founder of the iconic rock band ‘Van Halen’, Edward Lodewijk Van Halen known as Eddie Van Halen hailed as one of the best guitarists of all time lost the battle with cancer and dies at the age of 65, his son Wolf Van Halen shared the news on Twitter.
Wolf Van Halen wrote “I can’t believe I’m having to write this Edward Lodewijk Van Halen has lost arduous battle with this morning, He was the best father I could ever ask for. Every moment I’ve shared with him on and off stage was a gift. My heart is broken and I don’t think I’ll ever fully recover from this loss.”
Edward Lodewijk Van Halen and his brother Alex Van Halen started music career as teens but formed the band Van Halen after they met the vocalist ‘David Lee Roth’.
His solos crackled like lightning and powered all the band’s signature songs: “Runnin’ With the Devil,” “Panama,” “Hot For Teacher,” “Why Can’t This Be Love?” and of course “Jump” — their only No. 1 hit — which topped the pop singles charts in 1984.
Eddie Van Halen is known for guitar techniques and solos such as eruption and also played the solo for Micheal Jackson’s Thriller album’s billboard number 1 ‘Beat it’.
Van Halen band fame began with David Lee Roth on the lead vocal while after a couple of albums band founding member switched to Sammy Hagar as the lead vocalist, that didn’t work for long for an album Extreme vocalist Gary Cherone joined Van Halen to record the 11th studio album as Van Halen III in 1998, later on David Lee Roth returned back to the scene with Van Halen brothers.
