Tel Aviv – The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed that Hezbollah official Hashem Safieddine was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Beirut earlier this month. Safieddine, the head of Hezbollah’s executive council and a close cousin of Hassan Nasrallah, was considered a potential successor to the Hezbollah leader, following Nasrallah’s reported death in September.
According to the IDF, the airstrike, which took place on October 4, also killed Hussein Ali Hazima, Commander of Hezbollah’s Intelligence Headquarters. The strike specifically targeted Hezbollah’s underground intelligence headquarters in the southern suburbs of Beirut, an area densely populated by civilians, known as Dahiyeh.
The Israeli military emphasized that the operation aimed to disrupt Hezbollah’s leadership and intelligence capabilities.
