The citizens of Kuwait are set to enjoy an extended three-day weekend as the Civil Service Commission has announced a public holiday on February 8, 2024, (Thursday) for Isra Wal Miraj.
According to the details, all ministries and government departments will be closed that February 8 to allow citizens to observe this significant religious occasion.
The Civil Service Bureau stated that regular work reschedule will be restored from February 11. The bureau also acknowledged the peculiar nature of some agencies and entities; therefore, it stressed their autonomy to adjust holiday schedules towards conforming with public interests.
Isra Wal Miraj, which is held on the 27th day of the Islamic month of Rajab in the Hijiri calendar and means “Night Journey and Ascension” and pays tribute to Mohammed’s (PBUH) journey with God from Mecca to Jerusalem via heaven all in one night. On this occasion, Muslims pray (optional) during the nights and in some areas, special lights and candles are lit to symbolize the miraculous journey of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH).
