Liz Truss will become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) after after winning the Conservative Party’s leadership contest on Monday.
She will formally take over the country’s leader tomorrow (Tuesday) after months of scandals plunged Boris Johnson to resign from his position.
Liz Truss was able to beat her rival Rishi Sunak, the former Chancellor, by 81,326 to 60,399 votes in a ballot of Conservative Party Members.
The foreign secretary will meet the Queen at Balmoral, the monarch’s country estate, and immediately return to London to address the nation from Downing Street and announce her cabinet.
Liz Truss is set to face a daunting challenge as her administration inherits several problems, including a cost-of-living crisis, the aftershocks of Brexit, a war in Europe and dropping support for the Conservatives in the opinion polls.
