A new train station is set to be constructed near University City in Sharjah, with plans to connect it to the national railway network of Etihad Rail. The announcement was made during a signing ceremony attended by His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, along with other officials.
The aim is to enhance passenger transport, particularly benefiting university students across the emirates. Situated near University City, the station will offer easy access to important landmarks and residential areas in Sharjah, improving connectivity for commuters.
It’s projected that the daily number of passengers on the Etihad Train will increase to about 14,000 on weekdays.
The UAE’s national railway network is undergoing development, spanning over 900km. Passenger transport services will soon link 11 cities and regions, including Al Sila, Fujairah, Abu Dhabi, and Dubai.
This announcement is part of the strategy to implement the UAE’s National Railways Network, managed by Etihad Rail. The goal is to enhance passenger train services and connect cities and residential areas with a reliable network.
The signing ceremony featured an agreement to connect the network track to the passenger station in Sharjah, signed by Shadi Malak, CEO of Etihad Rail, and Naji Al Harthi, Chairman of Tristar Engineering and Construction Company.
Sheikh Theyab underlined the fact that the company is responsible for the development and operation of the UAE National Railways while the focus is directed towards the connection of main track to the passenger station in Sharjah. This measure aims to further develop relationships between the residential communities in the Emirates and particularly as Sharjah bridges Dubai to the rest of the northern Emirates and acts as the center of important sights and landmarks
The making of the UAE’s unmanned railroad network is a substantial stride to the development of transportation infrastructure, with a view to achieving a reliable and safe interconnection of the country.
