Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) authorities have started a crackdown against cars with modified engines and the drivers who do not have the registration plates, imposing heavy fines to uphold road safety.
In line with the strategy of the Ministry of Interior to strengthen traffic security via sophisticated traffic systems, the Traffic and Patrols Division of Ras Al Khaimah Police are implementing strict measures against drivers of cars with modified parts and those without proper license plates on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.
This cooperative work with the Comprehensive Police Department has generated considerable results. Recently, Major Khaled Al Shamsi, the Head of the Traffic Investigation and Control Department at Ras Al Khaimah Police, revealed that during the period of 2023, there were 247 tickets issued for unauthorized engine or chassis modifications and each violation resulted in Dh1,000 fine, the deduction of 12 traffic points, and a 30-day vehicle impoundment.
As for vehicles on the road without number plates, a total of 42 vehicles were seized and owners had to pay Dh3,000 along with deduction of 23 traffic points and the vehicle was also impounded for 90 days. The Traffic and Patrols Department in Ras Al Khaimah reminds people that traffic violations could lead to severe road accidents and stresses on the legal consequences for offenders.
