The Roads and Transport Authority RTA recently stated that there is going to be significant change Nol cards’ minimum top-up amount starting January 15. 3. With the minimum fare for commuting in Dubai’s public transport being Dh5, new lowest rate would be raised to Dh20, which has caused concern among some citizens.
Passengers who regularly use Nol cards during their daily trips must pay attention to this change. It is pertinent to mention that four years ago a round trip with the Metro transit network cost Dh15 from the Nol card and now users must have at least Dh20 loaded into their account.
Nol card is a multi-purpose prepaid smart card which has been used in Dubai to settle payments of public transport such as Metro, buses, trams, or waterbus. It is also useful apart from the public transportation; it can be used to pay for taxi fares, parking, entrance to public parks, Etihad Museum, and over 200 shops, restaurants and stores spread across all around Dubai city.
Commuters can also conveniently top-up their Nol cards by using RTA ticket vending machines, solar top-up devices and the online card app.
In addition, the RTA also provides loyalty and rewards program with their “Nol Plus” card. Furthermore, commuters can also use their Nol points for account credit maintenance shopping at partner’s shops restaurants etc to avail discounts.
