The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai recently finished a 2-month-long maintenance project on the Water Canal Bridge Waterfall along Sheikh Zayed Road. This major undertaking concentrated at improving the safety measures.
The maintenance accumulated over 600 hours of work, and involved assembling and disassembling the exterior of the waterfall after refurbishment. Additionally, polyethylene pipes replaced the stainless-steel water pipes to make them more sustainable and the outdated stainless-steel structure of the waterfall was substituted with a new one. Furthermore, a platform was mounted to enhance accessibility and security of the workers during the maintenance process.
This upgrade is one of the RTA initiatives that aim to preserve and enhance its property, promote sustainability, and increase the lifespan of its assets. The maintenance process involves five phases: daily, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual, which consist of many kinds of tasks like a thermal imaging test and testing of lighting and electrical distribution panels.
The illuminated waterfall is a brilliant feature of Dubai Water Canal, a place of interest for tourists and a place of community gathering. With motion sensors, the waterfall comes to a stop when boats pass below, thus creating even more mystique.
Dubai Water Canal, which is one of RTA’s ambitious projects and a symbol of beauty and functionality, is a link between Business Bay and the Arabian Gulf, improving the city landscape and offering recreational opportunities to residents and tourists.
