The crescent moon of Dhul Hijjah has been sighted in Saudi Arabia, which marks the beginning of the last month of the Islamic calendar. It means that Saudi Arabia will celebrate Eid Al-Adha 2024 on June 16 (Sunday).
The key locations for moonsighting in Saudi Arabia were Sudair and Tumair, as the Supreme Court often bases its decisions on the reports from these areas.
Moonsighting activities are also scheduled for other countries on the 29th day of Dhul Qadah. Saudi officials have confirmed the search for the new moon’s crescent, which marks the start of Dhul Hijjah.
Muslims in several other countries, including the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan, Syria, and Iraq, are expected to search for the Eid al-Adha crescent on Thursday, June 6, 2024. The sighting of the moon in these countries will determine their respective dates for celebrating Eid Al-Adha.
Eid Al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most significant Islamic holidays, commemorating the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son in obedience to God. It is marked by communal prayers, feasts, and the ritual sacrifice of animals.
