The new fishing regulations in Kalba, issued by Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, emphasize designated routes for fishermen to reach their fishing spots. Administrative Resolution No. (2) of 2024 AD outlines that fishermen must adhere to specified areas, avoiding prohibited zones marked by floating signs (buoys)
Additionally, the regulations prohibit fishermen from exporting or selling their catch outside Kalba. However, they are permitted to display and sell their catch within the city’s markets.
In the event of equipment confiscation by the Environment and Protected Areas Authority, fishermen will be compensated for the duration of their unemployment.
A special committee, comprising Major General Saif Mohammad Al Zari Al Shamsi, Ali Ahmed Abu Ghazin, and Muhammad bin Shahraan, has been formed to study and propose appropriate compensation for injured fishermen, subject to approval.
These regulations aim to streamline fishing activities, ensure environmental protection, and provide support and compensation for affected fishermen.
