This weekend, the bustling Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, the UAE’s busiest highway, will remain closed for traffic as it is set to undergo a remarkable transformation into the world’s most extensive running track – known as Dubai Run.
Dubai Run is scheduled for Sunday, November 26, marking the culmination of the month-long Dubai Fitness Challenge. In an extraordinary move, vehicular traffic will be halted, allowing thousands of enthusiastic runners to take command of the iconic highway.
Open to individuals of all ages and running capabilities, the Dubai Run offers participants two distinct route options, both of which showcase the city’s most renowned landmarks:
- 5 KM Downtown Stretch: Starting near the Museum of the Future on the Sheikh Zayed Road, this route guides runners past iconic sites such as the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Opera, concluding in the vicinity of Dubai Mall.
- 10 KM Sheikh Zayed Road Route: Catering to experienced runners seeking a more challenging course, this route commences at the Museum of the Future, traverses the Dubai Canal bridge, loops along the Sheikh Zayed Road, and concludes near the DIFC Gate.
The festivities will commence with an impressive Dubai Police supercar parade, adding a touch of excitement to the event.
Participation in both routes is free, and individuals can secure their spot by registering on the website and selecting their preferred route.
Upon registration, a crucial QR code will be issued for bib collection, a process available until November 25 at Run and Ride Central in One Central. It’s important to note that those without a bib will be unable to participate in this extraordinary event.
Last year’s Dubai Run witnessed a staggering 193,000 participants, including runners, joggers, wheelers, and walkers, setting a record for the largest number of participants and solidifying its status as the world’s most extensive community fitness event.
