Israel: Archaeologists have discovered 1200-year-old Mosque in Israel Negev Desert.
The ruins discovered is said to be one of the oldest mosques ever discovered. The ruins are being claimed to be as old as 1,200 year old. The excavation revealed it to be one of the earliest known rural mosques in the world.

The remains were discovered in the Bedouin town of Rahat date back to the 7th and 8th century.
The building is rectangular in shape. It is said to be open-air with Mihrab facing south towards the holy city of Makkah.
Gideon Avni of the antiquities authority also an expert in Islamic history said it is a rare find in the Middle East and in the world in general. He also said this is one of the first mosques constructed after the arrival of Islam in the area. The Arabs conquered the Byzantine province which in present time is Israel in 636 CE.

There are a large number of mosques discovered from that era in Israel and Makkah this new discovery of the 1200 years old mosque rivaled them all.
Israel’s Antiquities Authority said the 1,200-years-old Mosque was discovered during building work in the area. The archeological excavation was being carried out by Israel Antiquities Authority together with Bedouin residents and youths, in preparation for the construction of a new neighborhood in the city, funded by the Negev Development and Settlement Authority.
The experts believe the mosque was a congregation area for the local farmers of that time.
The researchers also discovered a farm and a small settlement near the mosque. They have also said no structure similar to this has ever been found.
The settlement found near the mosque included houses with living room, courtyards, storage rooms and fireplace for cooking food.
