UAE authorities have confirmed that government employees will enjoy a one-day paid holiday in celebration of the Islamic New Year. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources announced that Muharram 1 on the Islamic calendar will be observed as a holiday.
Muharram 1 is anticipated to fall on July 7 according to the Gregorian calendar, contingent upon Moon-sighting.
For the private sector, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (Mohre) declared that the holiday will also be observed on July 7, as per their announcement on Tuesday.

Following the Hijri New Year, residents can anticipate another holiday marking the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)’s birthday, as listed in the 2024 holiday calendar announced by the UAE Cabinet.
The year’s final official holiday will be a long weekend, coinciding with National Day celebrations. Public holidays in the UAE are granted in addition to the 30 annual leave days available to employees.
Similarly, Oman has announced a holiday for the Hijri New Year on July 7, applicable to both public and private sector employees. This will result in an extended weekend for government employees and private sector companies operating on a 5-day work-week.
