The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has officially declared Wednesday, January 1st, 2025, a public holiday for all government employees in the United Arab Emirates in celebration of the New Year.
The announcement, made via the authority’s official Twitter account, confirms that government operations will return to normal on Thursday, January 2nd, 2025.
In a coordinated move, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has also confirmed that employees in the private sector will enjoy a paid holiday on January 1st, marking the beginning of the 2025 public holiday schedule.
This unified holiday ensures that both public and private sector employees across the UAE can participate in New Year’s festivities. The day off aligns with the previously published 2025 UAE holiday calendar, which lists a total of 13 public holidays throughout the year.
Government officials have highlighted the importance of early announcements like this, enabling residents to plan their time effectively and promote a positive work-life balance in the new year.
The move underscores the UAE’s commitment to inclusivity and well-being for its workforce.
