DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced reduced working hours for employees of federal ministries and departments during the holy month of Ramazan 2025. This decision, aimed at supporting employees during the fasting period, was announced by the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) through an official circular, detailing a revised schedule effective throughout Ramazan.
According to the circular, federal entities will operate under the following working hours during Ramazan 2025:
Day | Working Hours |
---|---|
Monday to Thursday | 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM |
Friday | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM |
FAHR emphasized that ministries and federal bodies have the flexibility to implement remote work policies or other flexible working arrangements, as long as they adhere to the daily working hour limits mandated by the government. This move is intended to balance productivity with the spiritual and physical demands of fasting during Ramazan.

The state-run WAM news agency reported that federal departments can also allow up to 70 percent of their workforce to work from home on Fridays during Ramazan, subject to approval and compliance with government regulations. This provision underscores the UAE’s commitment to employee well-being while maintaining operational efficiency during the sacred month.
The reduced hours and flexible arrangements are expected to ease the burden on employees observing fasting, allowing them to participate more fully in religious practices while continuing to contribute to public service. This initiative reflects the UAE’s ongoing efforts to create a supportive work environment during Ramazan, a time of reflection, prayer, and community in the Islamic calendar.
