A health centre in Abu Dhabi was fined Dh1 million by the Department of Health (DoH) recently and some of its doctors are being investigated for suspected involvement in fraudulent activities. As a result, the multi-site health center is prohibited from offering dental services in the future. In addition, the DoH has taken strict action via the closure of eight health care facilities due to various violations.
These violations involve various types of problems from failure to report infectious disease cases, to violations of electronic reporting regulations, to insufficient supplies of meds in emergent cases. Other issues include failure of the infection prevention, unsafe medical records storage, and inability to comply with home care standards.
Furthermore, the violations may also revolve around cases of not requesting patient approval prior to administering treatment, failure to define treatment processes and pertaining risks, and not guaranteeing the presence of DoH licensed health practitioners.
The Department of Health has already begun calling for all healthcare facilities to follow its policies strictly, demonstrating how compliance ensures the proper functioning of the healthcare system. With this in mind, it seeks to uphold the best possible practices in regard to patient care and to regulatory compliance.
