The Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO) in Abu Dhabi has launched official ways to report cases concerning child abuse among individuals with special needs. The initiative was unveiled on Emirati Children’s Day and aims to address any suspected cases of mistreatment faced by people with determination in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
To facilitate reporting, ZHO has introduced various channels, including an email address (pod.cp@zho.gov.ae), a hotline, and a WhatsApp service (0542003366). Moreover, there’s a dedicated platform for employees to engage with matters concerning people of determination associated with the institution. The primary objective is to ensure a supportive environment for the healthy growth and well-being of children.
The new service emphasizes preventive measures to create a secure environment that protects individuals from physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, as well as exploitation and discrimination. This involves setting up channels for reporting suspected abuse cases, constant monitoring, providing protection, and enhancing the necessary skills to handle such cases. Collaboration with relevant entities is vital, emphasizing shared social responsibility.
To implement the initiative effectively, ZHO has trained 23 specialized staff members to serve as judicial officers specializing in child protection within the organization. A new job role, Child Protection Specialist, has been introduced for this purpose, underlining the commitment to safeguarding the rights and well-being of children with determination.
